Ramich Finishes 5th in Long-Awaited Return to Potomac Speedway

August 6, 2010

Following scheduling changes, rain-outs, and tow vehicle problems, Team Green Racing finally returned to it's home track with high hopes of a good finish. However, suspension problems again plagued the mighty 5+. Following hot laps it was discovered that the left-rear limiter chain had broke making the car loose on exit. This chain restricts the amount of rise at the left rear of the car. Without this chain in place, the left rear lifts as far as the bar arrangement will allow. This condition make the rear of the car steer more the usual, making the car difficult to drive (loose off). After one failed attempt to repair the chain after the heat, Craig ran the feature without, managing a 5th place finish.

Craig stated "It's pretty amazing how much of a difference the chain makes. I could feel it break off during the heat because the car was really good during the earlier part then wanted to break loose after that. We'll get this fixed for the next race because we think we can run with the top 3 guys here when the car is right."

Starting in 5th after the heat races, Craig held the position for half of the race until being passed by Dan Arnold (5w). "It was disappointing not being able to run with those guys up front, but we made a gear change as well and that seemed to be the right call. So at least we learned something this time out."

First Venture to Eastside Difficult One for Team Green Racing

July 26, 2010

After being rained out three weeks prior, the Team Green Racing team made the 2-1/2 hour trek back to Eastside Speedway in Waynesboro, VA to try the hand at the tricky 4/10-mile oval. Craig started fifth in his heat and would finish fourth after a tight battle with JD Breeden over the final laps. After several other divisions of racing, the track slicked up considerably and the team never found the handle of the slick surface. Craig added "We tried tightening the car up but were still way too loose. After the race we discovered we broke a part of the rear suspension that let the car over rotate. That was 30 laps of simply hanging on for dear life!"

With no crew help for this race, Craig was assisted by Dale Brown, Dale Brown Jr., and the late model crew that pitted next door. "The Brown family was great, as were all of the competitors at Eastside. When you have racers helping racers it just shows you that sportsmanship is alive and well in racing." The Brown crew helped make wholesale changes to the IPA/WSP 5+, but unfortunately the best Craig could do was salvage a 7th place finish. This first race at Eastside provided valuable information on setting up the car for a slick track, which could be useful during the rest of the season.

The 2010 Racing Season Starts off with a BANG!

May 30, 2010 - Fairfax, VA

After practicing the Positive Image/WSP/IPA Global Jet Mod #5+ at the 4/10 mile speedplant at Susquehanna earlier in the week, the team was excited to build on numerous top 5 finishes in 2009. Starting 8th in the heat Craig worked his way up 5th which would be his starting position in the 20-lap main.

Starting inside row three Craig would hold his position for the first half of the race and eventually work under the #28 of Tony Quade for fourth. Multiple-feature winner Russell Erwin ran third and developed an engine problem putting the 5+ into third with about 9 laps to go. Leaders Tony Garber (71) and Bret Hamilton (1st) would put on a spectacular duel about a straightaway ahead, but with the feature running caution free it was difficult to close the gap. Craig held off late race charges from reigning VMS track champion Dan Arnold and feature winner Eric Erwin to come home 3rd at the checkers.

"Finishing up 2009 we finally seemed to get past our ignition problems and we would have had a top-5 at the Nationals but we broke the third link in the car. Bret Hamilton has helped us with the setup for the four-link/Z-link which really takes some time to get used to. But it seems that this car and setup really like the soft E-mod tire and extra horsepower with the four-barrel carburetor. We are really looking forward to our next run at Potomac!" Ramich stated.

Next up for the Positive Image team will be "Kids Bus Ride Night" at Potomac Speedway on July 9th. Hope to see you there!

Ole' Yellow Gone But Not Forgotten

May 14, 2010 - Fairfax, VA

For the first time in over 10 years the Positive Image race team will field a car without the customary yellow paint scheme. According to driver/owner Craig "Big Daddy" Ramich, "It was time to change things up, and we've been wanting to do this wrap for a season and a half." With two primary sponsors bowing out before the start of the season, Positive Image has stepped up to help the team. Longtime partner WSP Environment & Energy and new sponsor Independent Project Analysis (IPA) are onboard as associates for 2010.

"Without our marketing partners none of this is possible" Craig added. "We had a great event at IPA headquarters in Ashburn and we continue to look for more sponsors throughout the season." Bulbeater, a manufacturer of fluorescent bulb compaction devices, will also be supporting the team this season.

One new logo on the car this season will be the "SD and cross" in memory of Stella Deater, Craig's mother-in-law. Stella recently lost her battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) after four years and the SD logo will adorn the 5+ for the 2010 season and beyond. Stella was a big fan of racing and we hope that in some small way this logo will honor her...
