We've only got one planet...we need to use it wisely.

April 2012 - Being in the environmental business, I am asked quite frequently what it means to be "green". Marketing firms and big corporate America like to throw the term "green" around to upsell their latest products and gadgets. They use it as a tag line, a gimmic, a way to define a fad. To me, it's much more basic and fundamental - use your resources wisely, minimize wastes, and make good decisions that benefit the environment. Can being "green" really be that easy?

There are practical things that we can do every day to be "green" - recycle more, turn off unecessary lights and powered items, maintain our cars to achieve better fuel economy. These are "green" practices that we should be doing anyway, but with the economy in the toilet these measures become even more beneficial.

Become an educated consumer so you can sift through all of the "green branding" to choose companies that truly understand the importance of sustainable practices and procedures. Buy the things need, not everything that you want, because consuming for comsumption's sake is not being "green". Do your part, and get your family, friends, and neighbors to do their part as well, and eventually you can make an impact...
